Default Looking at moving to Australia, need some help and guidance

hi everyone,

Me and my girlfriend want to move to Australia after a holiday in February this year there as we have fell in love with the place and feel that this would definitely be a better quality of life for us.
We are both 23 years old and work full time. I am a carpenter and my partner works in customer service/office work. Can anybody tell us any information to help us with our move and if this is a good choice to give up our jobs and move there? Would it currently be difficult for us to get a job etc.
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated

You need to look at whether you qualify for a visa first. Start with a read of http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/

That is changing if you work in Mining - the news this morning has BHP planning to shed 200 jobs in its Perth office.

200 jobs, will that register at all on the unemployment rate, it's incredibly low at 3.6% compared to the 8.1% unemployment figure in the UK.

Yer right, just replying to someone's negative post.

It might help the OP if they mention where they are heading?

With respect, you are not here so you do not know the situation. Those 200 jobs are very well paid and out of a population of 2 million, not 60 million like the UK. The company in question BHP have just built a new skyscraper to hold everyone but are now cutting headcount.
A couple of weeks ago FMG, a large iron ore company had to renegotiate their financing and cut a lot of jobs in one go.

The resources business in WA and Queensland is bankrolling the rest of Australia. If it starts to contract the pain is very real. Manufacturing in OZ is on its arse as it stands and retail is not far behind it.

Population in WA is 2.4 million and nearly all of them live in Perth so 200 jobs ( all of them highly paid ) is a big deal plus another mining company ( FMG ) binned a lot a month ago. A lot of companies are waiting until next year to defer work but that could be really nasty for WA.

These are companies who were hoovering up staff and offering very big salaries indeed - A mining worker in the Pilbara makes more money than an offshore oil rig worker in the UK with better conditions and much less rusk.

Suddenly the brakes are well and truly on

Hope you can help. Ps has anybody used visa agencies? Or have any comments on them? X
