Default Looking for an example of an RPL that was accepted?

Hello all,
I'm trying to immigrate to Australia as an IT professional and I do not have a degree, though I have been working successfully in IT for 10 years.

I've read all the requirements from ACS regarding what's required for the RPL, and I think that I am qualified. The only problem is that the RPL requirement is a bit confusing. I'm not exactly sure what they want me to write. I mean, I know that they don't want a laundry list of things that I've done but are looking for what I've learned. And actually, I've written about 7 pages thus far, and it seems that I've still a long ways to go. But I just want to make sure that I'm not writing pages and pages of what will ultimately be turned away as inacceptable because I haven't provided them what they expect in the format they are expecting it.

Right then... I had a point here. What I'm looking for is if someone out there actually has been through this process and submitted an RPL that was accepted by ACS. If so, it would help me tremendously, and I'm sure other readers of these forums as well, if you could post a copy (or just email me a copy) of what you submitted so that I might see what a successful submission looks like. I'd hate to go through all this trouble and get turned away, especially as my girlfriend is Australian and is determined to move back by the end of summer.

Any help that you might be able to provide would be much appreciated.

Cheers!
Tony

If your girlfriend is Australian your only bet to get here by the end of the northern summer is for her to sponsor you. Try booklet 1 on www.immi.gov.au/allforms. Much quicker, cheaper and easier than skilled migrations 50 weeks. STNI might be another option.

Tony,

People generally sweat blood and tears to complete an RPL. Mine took 4 weeks hard graft and was in excess of 60 pages and this was with advice from an agent (George Lombard).

I doubt you are going to get someone to hand over a copy but you could speak to an agent and get some advice. Might charge you though!!

Last time I saw someone offering RPL advice was charging US$150.

Can´t offer you my RPL, but will take a look at your and comment if you want...

Wish you luck anyway...

60 Pages !!!!. Sounds like hard work to me.

I did the bare minimum two RPL projects both approx !000 words each, & about
a paragraph on each ticked RPL knowledge gained.

Along with the references & certifications etc',

That's what they asked for, why give them anymore then that?.

I guess they can always ask for more.

Only just sent mine off though, I guess if I had read this posting then I
would have fattened it up a bit more.

Oh yeah, did you professionally bind it and have a glossy front cover with a picture of some obscure and indigenous creature, much akin to something from the O'Reilly range of IT publications and provide a CD with transcriptions of the original document into Swahili, Urdu and Welsh?

No, just as well then... ;-)

I think they decline first, then ask for more...

That being said, from speaking to them, after getting my RPL approval, I
*did* provide overkill. Then again, it gave me a deeming date way back in
the mid-90s, which was what may be the most important part.

David,

It will be interesting to see the outcome of your application. I find it hard to show how you could detail what you have learnt abot data comms or programming in a paragraph - I would be worrying.

Good luck

I did my two RPL reports both 1000 words each as requested.

I emailed them about the questions on the form, and they indicated that a
paragraph would be sufficient. Well to be more accurate they did say at
least a paragraph. I can't see them expecting more then this when describing
how knowledge was gained with regards to the "Core Body of Knowledge ". The
way the form is laid out would indicate no more then a good paragraph on
each.

I hate to say it, but It strikes me it doesn't matter how much you write as
it could all be made up anyway!. I would hope more weight would be added by
educational achievements such as MCSD, MCSE etc' along with courses sat,
exams passed & experience.

I have 9 years of solid references, & 2 years of not so solid references
(company no longer trading). I hold MCSE, MCSD, MCT, MCDBA, MCAD, and a few
others to boot. All achieved over an 11 year period.

I will post the results of the ACS evaluation on this forum in about 6 weeks
time. But you do have me worried now !.

Cheers All,
David.

Most people are not as good as making things up as they think they are.
There is a unit in Adelaide that could quite easily examine a document
for inconsistencies, and Adelaide does like to see all RPLs even after
ACS has given approval.

If you've done MCSE and MCSD, why did you bother with RPL, as currently
ACS consider these equivalent to an Australian diploma, so with 6 years
experience that's enough for standard Group B assessment.

Thanks for all your input. I am currently slogging through the RPL, working for 7 hours on it today alone, not to mention all the time last weekend. So far I have about 7 pages written, and still have two more areas of the CBOK to cover. I am trying to do a page or less per area of knowledge, with my average being about 3 solid paragraphs. It is a real pain and I believe that this is very much worse than getting my wisdom teeth extracted a few years ago.

My girlfriend (the Aussie) keeps reminding me that she knows that this is no fun, and that this shows my love and committment for her that I'm willing to do it. Next question... has anyone ever split up with their significant other over this process? ;-)

Anyway, I'm interested to hear an opinion about what I've done so far. And also, for any of you going through the RPL process right now, maybe it will provide some kind of help. I'm posting it on one of my websites. My only request is that if you use part of it in your own, please have the courtesy to re-work it a little so that it doesn't look like mine. I am taking a little bit of a chance by posting this before I have submitted it so please do not betray that trust. (thanks!)

Disclaimer: This is a work in progress. Even the sections that would appear finished are not absolutely finished yet.

Please let me know what you think and (of course) feel free to send me a sample of yours for comparison.

Cheers!

If the girlfreind is an Aussie, is it not simpler to shack up together
for 12 months then go as a defacto?
