long stay visitor visa

On the basis that we do not have family in OZ, is it possible for a British retired non-working couple over aged 65 with the financial means to stay in Australia as tourists for longer than 3 months, say up to 12 months at any one time?

Can a 3 month visa be extended, or anyone have any experience with it?

If so, can anyone provide information on this please?

You can apply for a subclass 600 Visitor visa for stays of up to 3, 6 or 12 months.

thanks

When applying does the 600 visa application ask 'length of stay visa required', so in the case of applying for the 12 month duration visa (character, health, health insurance & financial satisfied as being met) is a 12 month 'tourist visa' usually granted, or is it better to apply for a lesser time visa to start (say 3 or 6 months) then go do an an extension application while in OZ ?

Can that then be extended and/or anyone on a 12 month tourist visa has to leave OZ for a certain length of time before returning back to qualify for or get another long stay visa?

Thanks for any replies

If you want to stay 12 months and can meet the requirements then apply for 12 months.

Any request for an extension after that time is likely to looked upon dimly as it would become clear that you were attempting to reside in Australia rather being a genuine visitor.
