LAFHA
Hi everyone,
My husband is currently receiving LAFHA however, we are thinking we may want to buy our own home shortly. Will we still be eligible to receive LAFHA if we purchase a house??
We are out here on a 457 4 year visa.
Done a quick search for the answer but to no avail......
Thanks
Sally

My uderstanding is that once you have bought an Aus' property you are no longer classed as living away from home and LAFHA is no longer payable.
We are just about to go out to Sydney on a 457 and this is one of the points which I was slightly dissapointed at as we would prefer to buy but the LAFHA is such a good chunk of cash to give up!
Hope this helps and good luck!

Hi
We have also just been told that if you sell your house in the UK, you also CANNOT claim LAFHA, as it means you have no intention of returning????
Does anyone know if this is true??

Hi Kim!
Not sure about that but it would make sense.
FYI have checked with Aussie tax office - as soon as you buy, you are no longer eligible for LAFHA.
