Hi Everyone, I wonder if someone could give me a bit of advice?
I'm applying under the skilled independant cat. Unfortunately I only get 110 points and need 115, but I've just read a post on here that they will or have reduced the pass mark to 110? is this correct? Would be good if it is! Thanks!
Would just like to thank everyone who replyed to this post and ask if anyone knows how I can get hold of the latest "skills in demand list" ( I'm a dental technician and hope thats on there!!!) Thanks again everyone.

The new 'regional independent' visa that DIMIA plan to introduce in July
will likely have a pass mark of 110. However, you will not be able to
settle in the major cities until you get your PR viss after 2 years in
Australia - Adelaide is likely to be the largest place that's eligible
initially.
Wait and see the exact details of what DIMIA announce over the next few
months.

This is not intended to be legal advice in any jurisdiction

Jeremy, any ideas if already submitted PR applications be offered an
opportunity to participate in this 'regional visa'?

Dear 4000psi,
Yes, people who have already applied will be given the opportunity to apply
for this visa. We understand that anyone in the "pool" will automatically
be given this right.
Cheers

What about those of us already in the system.
Do you think this will hasten or delay our applications

Whether people will have the opporunity to switch to this visa before
their application has been assessed (maybe to get 'faster' processing)
remains to be seen. Also, if you have 115+ points it may not be
advisable to accept this regional visa due to the disadvantages of
temporary resident status for 2 years (especially if in so doing you
need to withdraw your 136 application), including:
- little flexibility to move within Australia if your circumstances change
- you will need to make the move to Australia proper much more quickly
than if you have a permanent visa
- time on the temporary visa won't count for Australian citizenship
- you won't be able to sponsor relatives for PR while on the temporary visa
- some employers are reluctant to hire temporary residents, even those
with full work rights
- it's not clear whether holders of the regional temp visa will be
eligible for Medicare
- it's not clear whether those who go to regional NSW will face school
fees to enrol their children in government schools. This is NSW policy
for most temporary residents - it remains to be seen if they will make
an exception.

A lot of questions are still wide open with this visa, and until the
regulations are announced no-one is going to be able to give specific
answers.
