IELTS. Why is UK BSc not taken into account?
 

Given I am 43. I need to make up the 20 point shortfall by obtaining a 'Superior' IELTS award. Curious as to why my BSc degree is not taken into account.

I have read the documentation on the How can I prove I have superior English? and it makes no mention of them taking into account your BSc

Because I'm assuming a BSC in anything is not a recognised indication of English language skills.

I too obtained superior English for extra points (I'm British born) and successfully got my 189 so if you want any advice let me know.

Because a BSc is not proof that you are actually any good at English. My ex-husband has a BEng but is absolutely crap at spelling/writing, so would not be able to prove he actually has superior English.

Sorry, but if you still have 2 months on your 175 I would suggest you just use that instead of farting around with new skills assessments, IELTS, EOIs, etc. It has become much more expensive to apply for PR now than it was 5 years ago. And didn't you say your wife and daughter don't want to move to Australia anyway?

Fair point.

Totally agree, but there lies the problem. Sometimes, I wish I never applied for the damn visa. Has made things very complicated. Anyhow, that's a different issue :-(

Hey Juckky,

Don't worry, I know what you're going through. Been through it myself. The IELTs test is a test of your overall English language comprehension and communication ability. You don't need to have perfect grammar, spelling or anything like that. What you do need to be able to do is understand the language - written and spoken - and be able to communicate well with both the written and spoken word. As a native English speaker, you should not have any problems.

When I turned up to sit my IELTs in 2009, I found myself surrounded by Chinese students looking perplexed and asking what I was doing there if I was a native English Speaker. I remember wryly telling them they needed to go and ask Australian Immigration. ;)

I wouldn't stress too much about it. I was pleasantly surprised when I turned up to sit it.

Could be worse! In Oz you don't necessarily need to take IELTS if you have enough points elsewhere, in Canada it's mandatory no matter what your passport!

On a similar IELTS note anyone had their results delayed due to 'quality control'? They should have been out today.

Might be worth caveating that for the sake of anybody reading - it's mandatory for *some* visa routes, but not all.

Apologies, referring to PR (Express Entry now) where I don't think there are any exceptions.

Ah yes, for EE it's mandatory, just not for some other PR routes.
