IELT's Test - Advice Please?

Hi Everyone, hoping to get some advice, maybe some reassurance on here about the IELTS test. In order for us to gain sufficient points Hubby will have to sit the test.
He's really concerned about this as he has Dyslexia & he's your typical tradesman, brilliant at his job but when it comes to paperwork, reading writing - that's not his thing at all. He's really in a panic over this. Plus it costs £140 a go so it's not a cheap thing to keep having to re-sit.
We need a score of either 10 or 20 on the test to enable him to go for either 189 or a 489 visa.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Have a look online and you should be able to find practice reading and listening tests, and writing samples. IELTS isn't difficult but for someone with dyslexia it's also not going to be plain sailing. It may be worth it if your OH signs up to classes to familiarise himself with the tests and have lots of practice at time management.

IELTS is a no big deal. There are many online tests available for practicing. According to me practicing is the only way to gain high scores. Familiarity of the format also helps a lot. So, instead of wasting your money it is better that your hubby prepare for it. No need for panic. You can also help him in drilling exercises. And good luck.

A site that helped me a lot is ielts-simon.com. Although Simon sells his ebook through this site, there is plenty of free material on there to help you prepare.

For example, the site gives a list of topics that have come up in the past in the Speaking section.
Also, in the Writing section, the IELTS test is very much about how you structure your essays. It is worth memorising this structure before sitting the test. Worked very well for me!

Good luck :fingerscrossed:
