Hi all,
Can someone possible give me some info on my question.
I am looking to emigrate to oz soon. My problem is that although i have
qualificationas and experience in I.T i am finding it hard to keep within
the industry in the UK. This means that i am gonna have to take another job
outside of I.T but when i apply for my visa i will now have been working in
the industry.
I am A+ certified and have numerous other quals. My fiance is a part qual
acct so should we try to make the move on her quals???

Tigger,
There are a couple of considerations in your case:
- skills assessment: the ACS will want to see at least 4 years of work experience in IT prior to giving you your skills assessment as an IT professional (assuming you have a bachelor degree or higher with a major in IT).
- deeming date: the ACS will give you a "deeming date" which will be the date where you accumulated the required amount of work experience. DIMIA will not count work experience prior to the deeming date to be in your nominated occupation.
- recent work experience: you would need to have at least 12 out of the last 18 months of skilled work experience after the deeming date to meet this requirement. Note that this does not need to be in your nominated occupation, and can be in any skilled occupation. If you change jobs, you might still be OK if you work in a skilled occupation.
With regards your girlfriend, the accounting bodies would either require a bachelor degree covering the required accounting courses or membership of a recognised accounting body (eg CIMA, ACCA) for her to get a skills assessment. Partial qualifications probably won't work for skills assessment as an accountant.
Regards,

For accountants the key is usually either the equivalent of an
Australian bachelors degree in accountancy or full membership of a
recognised overseas body.
Many part-qualified accountants will have an appropriate degree and
can apply on this basis before qualifying fully as a professional
accountant.

Hi Tigger,
I recently moved to Aus and also worked in the "IT" field and have numerous
qualifications.
Firstly the A+ is not recognised as a qualification by the industry, most
people think your talking about your blood group.
I have taught A+/N+ for the past five years, but cannot use the
qualifications on my resume, most employers want Australian recognized
qualifications.
Even my National Higher Diploma (Light Current) does not carry weight
because it does not specify a specific qualification in a specific field.
I am now attended an electronics course which will give me a certificate in
the repair of printers, faxes and photocopy machines. While I am on course I
can request a "RPL" (Recognition of Previous Learning) for my computer
qualifications and improve my chances in the employment market.
Age is also a deciding factor, from your posting it sounds as if you are
still young, so you may not have the problems I am experiencing.
If you are not being sponsored by an employer, you should have sufficient
monetary
backing to see you over, for a few months.
Hope I have not scared you off, the weather and life style is great!!
Regards
Andre - Perth
