Guys,
I am hoping to emigrate to Oz when I complete my Doctors Training in 2010.
I intend to spend the next 2 summers backpacking for 8 weeks at a time round Oz to find out where I want to move to to my 10 year old.
If anyone can tell me what I should be doing in preparation for the move I would be very grateful. When do I start applying? how long is the process etc etc etc
Do I need a visa to go there for 8 weeks in July? When do I apply to emigrate? Whats forms, what codes or can anyone recommend an agency that will doi it all for me but they seem to charge a massive fee.
I just literally need an idiots guide to emigrating to OZ
Any info gratefully received.
Thanks
Paris

Hi
For your backpacking trips you will need either an ETA which is valid for trips of up to three months (it's like a holiday visa but is done electronically so you don't get a sticker in your passport - it's all just electronically connected to your passport number) or, if you're not from an ETA eligible country, you'll need to apply for a visa (which is actually stuck in your passport and is more expensive).
Follow the links for Tourist at www.immi.gov.au
As for the migration stuff, there's not a lot you can be doing before you finish your course and are qualified. There is a lot of great info on the immi.gov.au site - you need to find out about how much work experience you need after you qualify.
Good luck!
