Red face How strict is the balance of family?

Hi, I am new on here, and just wondering how strict the Balance of Family rule is in certain visas to emigrate to Australia?
Could someone please give some details on it?
Thanks.

For Parent visas it means that at least half your children must be resident in Australia.

Ie if you have 3 children then 2 must live there.
If you have 2 children then 1 must live there.

I do not think it applies to any other visas.

Or the greater number of children living in any one country is Australia e.g 2 children in Uk 2 in America and 3 in Australia would qualify

Tony
Correct - but those with fewer than five children don't benefit from this concession.

Does this not apply to parents also?

What is you have one parent in UK and one parent in Australia, can the child in the UK then not apply under this visa?

Balance of family is in relation to a parent or parents wishing to migrate on the basis of having one or more children already permanently resident in Australia. Where a parent is permanently resident in Australia and a child wants to migrate, the obvious visas would be 138 if parent is living in a non regional area and 139 if parent has been living in regional area for at least 12 months. You will also need to meet recognised skills and skilled experience criteria.

Tony
Tony is quite correct, and the fall-back visa to look at for a parent sponsoring a child is the Remaining Relative visa (or a Dependent Child visa if the child is under 18, or otherwise dependent on the parent).

The deal for parents sponsoring children is very different to children sponsoring parents .

Occasionally a child does sponsor a parent for a skilled visa and this is quite possible provided the parent is aged under 45.

Thanks for your messages everyone, they are all most helpful!
I am trying to decide which visa is best for me and my family at the moment so we haven't even started yet!
Thanks again!
