hello there,
we have a dilema, my partner and i where off the canada in june, we are both searving our notices and need to leave the uk in june.. My partner is a pilot and has been in contact with a tasmanian airline and they have said to come over to see them as there my be a job and training could start in june. Auatralia was always our first choice but unfortunatley pilot is not on the skilled list, so we looked at canada.But we really want to go the oz, so we are going to see them hoping they offer a job, ill get to the point, im worried about visa, we dont have much time as we would need to be there in june, do we apply for a 457? can we go over on a tourist visa and apply from tassy, or apply now, im so confused by all the visas and hoping some one can help!!!

You would need to apply for a tourist visa. You cannot apply for the 457 until the airline has agreed to sponsor him and sent in their part of the sponsorship forms.

The first place to look for information is www.immi.gov.au

I thought that would be the case , we might go for a week for interview they said they would sponsor my partner if he gets the job?? then apply for the 457, then go over in june . i dont suppose you know how long the visa takes because we will be in tassy in june and hope to start work.

457 usually takes about 6-8 weeks if everything is in order. Before he can start flying though he would have to get licensed in Australia. Make sure he will be able to actually do so first.
