Unhappy Help! Victoria Skills Eligibility List

Hello everyone

we were due to start applying for Victorian State Sponsorship in the next couple of weeks as my wife has nearly finished her TRA application as a Hairdresser, and whilst looking through the Eligibility List I noticed that Hairdressing is no longer on there. It seems they've posted a new list today with quite a few skills removed. Does anyone know why this has happened or if it will be changed again anytime soon.

We're desperate to move to Melbourne but don't have enough points without state sponsorship. Any suggestions as to what we could do now much appreciated.

Hi there, sorry to hear that. My husband's occupation (IT) was also taken off the S.A. list (it was the only state that had Computing Professionals - NEC on it - all the other states have irrelevant (mainly software) specialisations) so we were also very disappointed

I think they're getting stricter because they only have a certain number of migrants they can sponsor (I think the visa quotas for 2009 have been reduced) and what with the economy and the job prospects not looking good, they're having to make sure that the jobs are really there for the occupations listed as 'in demand'. Plus, I heard that lots of Aussies are coming back from abroad (because of the economy, esp. in the UK) and taking up jobs in their native country, so there are less jobs for immigrants.

I may be wrong but this is my take on it anyway. Best you can do is, like us, to keep an eye on the state lists and see if they change them over the next year (I believe they review them every 6 months).

I just can't believe they've done this now. We actually decided to apply for a visa last year but because my wife wasn't quite working the 20 hrs per week we had to put it off for a year while she worked more hours - and now we're finally getting the applications together this happens. Just got to keep on hanging in there I suppose.

Am there myself - yesterday Secondary Teacher was on the list but today its not.

The route in may now be more challenging but its not closed.

Speak to an agent - I did and I am now much happier that we have another option.

Tell me about it. We've spent the last year (and around £3.5k!) applying for Canada, and just before Xmas we decided it wasn't what we wanted and are now aiming for Oz. Ironic really because it was always between Oz and Canada, and now we've decided on Oz it's too late cos my husband's turned 35 so loses the crucial 5 points which bring us down to 115! Also, we were 'this close' to getting our PR for Canada. The only annoying thing really is the money we've spent, but the way I look at it is - if it cost £3.5k (of which £2k a holiday to check it out, £1k an agent and the rest in visa fees) to find out it wasn't for us, then it was money well spent and at least now we'll never be wondering 'what if...?'

I have to say, we are 100% pleased with our decision to cancel Canada and if it means staying in the UK (i.e. if we can't get in to Oz) then that will be fine, we'll make the most of it because England can be a really lovely place at times, and there are things I would miss (we might end up moving to a different area though!).

hi, you can still go to Oz with with state sponsorship (a priority visa at the moment) - if your occupation is on the state's list...
you need 90 points (plus 10 the state gives you when they sponsor you...) = 100
Hope this is good news...?

Hi Anne, unfortunately the only state that had my husband's skill on it (S.A.) took it off their list on January 1st this year So we're just sitting back in the hope that someone adds it to their list over the next year or so.

Thanks anyway though

Hello

I am also in a same boat, I was gathering all docs and was in a impression eligibility list won't slashed as badly. For onshore applicants they have trimmed down to just 8 science professions and Trade professions are completely eliminated.

Since 12th of Jan I am really in hot waters and just trying to see what other options I have. Now I have to work one year on graduate visa to gain Local experience but seeing these changes I am just not sure what future will bring to me. If point system changes by next year I would be no where then.

Just don't know how to cope these challenges. I contacted lawyer and was told may be on peoples reaction they might consider some changes in the eligibility list. No idea its a right suggestion or not but I did email to Victoria and did email to premier of Victoria as well for onshore professionals who are just neglected.

well despite hopes my intuition says there wouldn't be any positive outcome.
sad and depressed and

It's not likely true, S.A. SRS still can sponsor IT manager, Northern Territory SRS still have 2231-79, and some other states, such as Victoria, W.A., Queensland still have 2231-79, you can consider about it

Exclamation Re: Help! Victoria Skills Eligibility List

Am I the only one going Crazy over this???!!!!

When I look at completing a State Sponsorship application for Victoria under Computing Professiona-NEC, I do not see that in the drop down menu of their online application!!! The only thing I see is "Computer System Auditor."

Guys...I would suggest to apply under computing Professionals in States still offering the NEC option. It is really in our best interested to apply soon if we can....I understand it is easy to just say on my part..everybody's situation is different..but try soon before another state changes their list..

BTW...you inputs on my question will be helpful.

Yes..i had the problem too...the dropdown menu didnt list my occupation " external auditor" altough it is on the new eligibility lists....however, on the top of the page they say that if your occupation is not listed in dropdown menu and is on the state eligibility list u can complete the form and email it to them.......so i did the same...

Yes I meant for the same pdf you provided in the link. When you click on the online system to apply...they dont have the CP-nec in the list. I kinda freaked out!!

But now I understand what needs to be done. Thanks!
