Hi all I'm been reading this newsgroup for quite a while and i need some general advice or
comments. The Situation: My girlfriend is from mauritius and i am an australian citizen
and has been dating each other on the net for the past 6 months. We will be meeting each
other for the first time very soon in her country. We want to be together in Australia as
soon as possible
1. Should she apply for a prospective spouse ie as a fiancee and what about the process
time ? Can she come on a tourist visa while application is being processed ?
2. Should we marry in her country and then apply for an offshore spouse visa ?
3. Or should she come on a tourist visa and we get married here and apply for a spouse
visa in australia Is there a quickest and safest way ? Thanks

You've not met and have been Internet 'dating' for six months no offence but what's
the hurry?

If you go ahead in trying to bring your girlfriend here whichever of the spouse-type visas
you decide on the key requirement is that you prove the relationship is 'genuine and
continuing'. Since you have not yet met your girlfriend you may have some difficulty in
demonstrating this to be the case. I'm sure we will hear from some of those who have been
through a similar situation as I believe there are a few couples that drop in here from
time to time who met on the Net, they may have some advice. Regards,
