HELP - Police Clearance

Hello everyone,
My wife and I must now get a "Police Clearance" as part of the application process.
We line in Pennsylvania, USA and asked (per the instructions on the relevant form)
our local and State Police offices about how we might obtain the forms. Both were
unfamiliar with the requested "Clearance Letter". The local police say it is a matter
for the State Police. The State Police offered to perform a background check, but
were otherwise
Am I missing something, or will the background check suffice?
Thanks,
Ed

Been there, done that. You go to the local police to get yourself finger printed.
They may charge you some token fee or do it as a freebie. Just tell them you are
getting an FBI background check and need to mail in a finger print card. They stamp
the card with their location on it or maybe have pre printed cards and need to give
it back to you.
You then send it to the FBI in Washington (make sure to send it to exactly the
address on the NZ forms) and a check for 27.50 or whatever is the going rate then
wait, and wait, and wait some more. It will eventually show up. Depends on the
amount of volume at the FBI at the moment. You can call for a quote and if I
remember correctly they give you a tracking number. I think they quote 22 working
days but it can be a lot longer because your search is not considered priority and
they work them in.
So just tell the police you need a finger print card with a stamp or something that
says it was finger printed there, no notary or official letter required. It might
seem a little strange to them but it is the correct process. I did mine in Las Vegas
and police background checks are very normal for most casino staff so it was a little
easier maybe than most cities.
That was almost 4 years ago but I doubt it has changed very much. Cheers.
