Default Help!Accountant but recent experience in different field

Hi to All:

I am just a newbie here and an Accountant by profession. Since it is
in the MODL LIST, I wanted to nominate this as my occupation. But for
the past 8 years, I am working in a Costing/Pricing of food menus which
does not realy fits in the ASCO description for an Accountant.

Can somebody please enlighten me on this matter on what is the best
route to take?

Thanks in advance and appreciates.

Below are my details, if it helps you.
My Nominated Occupation is Accountant (MODL). My designation in the present company (3+ yrs) is Information Systems Manager (This is in Skills List under a different ASCO Code). My Qualifications assessed by NIA Australia for Accountant ASCO code. So far, no issue or explanation asked about this.
I've applied under STNI.

Hi there

You can use a positive skills assessment as an Accountant to claim the
points and apply with a separate occupation to get through on recent
work experience. This is provided the occupations are closely related
and both on the SOL. Also, if your skills assessment is in an
occupation without MODL points, you can not claim MODL for recent work
experience. However, if it is the other way around, like it is in your
case, you can still claim the 15pts.

You can not apply for a 40pt category skill and use a 60pt category for
recent work experience, it needs to be equal or less. This really
doesn’t matter in your case; however people should be aware of this.

Check out the SOL list and ASCO codes to find a suitable description
for your recent work experience by visiting

Cheers,

That's not quite true, many people have work experience in a 60 pt occupation with a 50 point nominated occupation. As long as occupation is not registrable, this is usually ok.

A 40 point nominated occupation with work experience in a 50/60 point occupation is more tricky, but may still be do-able if you can prove the work is suitably "skilled". DIMA may look further back at your work experience compared to normal.

Thank a lot.

I'm afraid that I will not meet the required points as it would be much
less if I use any other occupations in the SOL using SKILLED INDEPENDENT
VISA.

Does it help if I obtain the help of a professional migration agent to
clarify all those grey matters pertaining to my occupation?

What about thru STNI?

Thanks again.

Not wishing to muscle in on this but I didn't want to start another thread about the same thing.
I've been a little confused on this recent work exp being different to nominated occupation.
I'm applying to the TRA under graphics/pre-press but my current job security
is getting a bit flakey and I have the opportunity to get work as a self employed illustrator.
It's all in the same area which is producing greetings cards.

Graphics/pre-press = 60 pts.
Illustrator = 50 pts.

Does anyone know if I could get my TRA as graphics/pre-press and recent work exp as an illustrator?

Scotty.

Hi Scotty,

If you've lodged your visa application then it doesn't matter what you do. If you were to change jobs six months before lodging the application then there could be problems with recent work experience, but in the case you mention it wouldn't matter since both occupations are on the SOL.

If you're thinking of changing jobs and it's still 12 months before the visa application is lodged (an unlikely scenario) then it depends on how many points you need. It's quite clearly explained in booklet 6 - you get 10 points for specific work experience in your trade or a closely related occupation, and 5 for work in another occupation (as long as it's on the SOL).

And just to back up what Jeremy said earlier in this thread, there's no limitation at all on having a 40 point assessed occupation and a 60 point recent work experience occupation, it all depends on showing that you were genuinely working in that occupation.

Cheers,

George Lombard

Nice one George.

That's so much clearer, thanks for taking the time to explain that to me.
I'm getting all of my TRA stuff together ready to send off so all being well I suppose I'd fall into 6 months bracket. If I were to pass that is.

Thanks again

Scotty.
