Hellllppppppppppp TRA - where to start!
We are just starting the TRA and are not sure where to start. Other half is applying as Carpenter and Joiner, he has all of his City and Guild certificates and his apprenticeship details from 22 years ago. Can anyone give us advice on the correct way to get going - please!!!!!

Hi
We are using an agent and he has sent us the forms and some examples. Its just working out what to do first. Its mind blowing. Its just knowing what and how much to put down. Mark is sitting downstairs now, surrounded by loads of papers, college work and certificates. Is there a set way of doing things or just go back and start from the start of his employment?

What I did was looked through a load of job sites and printed off all the job descriptions I could find, then we went through them to see what Hubby could do. Once done we started writing down a list of these things then typed them all out and made it look a bit like an extremely detailed C.V (about 5 pages long)
Then we got a supplier catalogue and listed all the tools he uses for his job (electrician) and wrote a seperate list with all these on.
Got employers to do a reference, we asked the Manager, and both of the shift supervisors to do one each.
Then sent it all in.
Hope that helps

Thats very helpful, thanks.
We've got plenty of trade catalogues about. 2 of the directors at work have already done him references and the managing director has told us to write a reference out and he will sign it!!

It is very time consuming (and often frustrating) but stick with it you'll be surprised how soon you can get the correct result.
You will have to include everything from what tools have been used for what job, health & safety, on the job training, college placements or training courses attended and when, what you duties consist of on a daily basis and references to back it all up.
Once you have done a copy e-mail it to your agent who should then tell you if it is ok or if anything needs altering or adding/deleting or re-wording. It might take several attempts but make sure that you use your agent as often as possible (even if you ring them everyday - that is what you are paying them for).
All the best to you and hope that you complete it successfully soon.
