Have electricians been taken off the visa list, just wondering because my Nephew who has been going through a 457 visa has just been told they can no longer apply for it?

Electricans are all on the ENSOL still, maybe its something to do with the changes to the 457 regime.

Thanks for your quick response. So I guess he has to go back to Britain and start from scratch.

Why? If he's here on a 457 nothing changes for him. Is it that his employer is ending his job, therefore his sponsorship? If that's the case he can try to find another sponsor.

His employer says they want to keep him on but Electricians have been taken of the list so they can no longer sponser him for the 457 Visa. It was early days and they had'nt yet put the forms in. There words were they had hit a brick wall. Basically he was over on a 1 year Visa (travelling, backpacking) came to stay with us. loved it, got offered a job and the company talked him to staying and said they would do the visa. He's been with them three months. He's gutted because he was just starting to settle in and had just past his probation period.

General electricians still on this list - is it the right one for his visa?

His employer should speak to a reputable migration agent about whether they qualify as a sponsor. It sounds to me like they simply don't want to sponsor him and are making excuses. Electricians are still on the SOL.

Thank you all for the information. I will let him know and he can speak to his company, if they don't won't to sponser him at least he knows that door is not completely closed, ie it's the company not the visa.

Thanks again for the replys

Dear F5,

There is a new list of occupations available for the subclass 457 visa, see http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skill...ccupations.pdf , however general electricians are still on that list. I wonder whether it has something to do with the need for electricians to be licensed, although even that concern can be sidestepped these days.

Cheers,

George Lombard
