Good PC suppliers

Hi,

I'm out to Sydney from the UK on the 12th of October and need to buy some PC
parts when I get there. Are there any really good, cheap online component
shops about or will I be better buying from EBay?

Wait until you get on the ground in Sydney and check it out then.

The biggest on line shop is Harris Technology www.ht.com.au
I bought my components from the shops opposite the QVB next to town hall.

Another site that comes to mind is www.adelong.com.au

I brought over my motherboard, ram, processor, HDDs abd video card in my suitcase and bought the cheap heavier bits over here. Just tell customs it is all over a year old on arrival.

Other shops include Dick Smiths and CX Computers.

All those are too expensive. The cheapest I found are the chinese/vietnamese
dealers in Chinatown or Cabramatta.
Dick Smith don't have much really and they don't know what they're talking
about either.

What about Dell? www.dell.com.au

Personally, I wouldn't. Dell is a brand name and you always pay more for
those. If you go to a local dealer, you can pick and choose which bits you
want and you get a good price.

If you are buying from the cheap shops you need to know what you are doing anyway. None of the stores here have the variety you get in the UK. Dick Smiths do have crap staff.

Margins are now so low you have to wonder what they are doing to sell so cheap.

Dell is now the cheapest option for those who aren't technically minded. Anyway this thread will probably get moved to the correct forum soon.

Absolutely! I build all my own so for me thats the best value.

If you want variety, go to TechMillenium in Penrith or EdgeComp in
Liverpool.
Beats anything you can find in the UK, both for value and variety. From what
I've seen, Europe tend to lag just behind Australia in this area. Probably
because Australia get a lot of their ideas and knwledge from Asia where they
are always right on top of things.

Re: Good PC suppliers

Compared to the French market .... the Australian prices are HIGH !!!! and the web sites are just informative! ! I am stunned .... or shocked !

So one of you does recommend shops in Chinatown ... I will wander there to get my Case & SATA HDD & Flat Screen. All the rest I will bring with me (PIV2.8/800 - 1.5 G DDR 400 - Intel MB ...)

If some of you have precise location to offer ........ please do not hesistate!

Thx

If you are shopping for price, try the local dealers in Cabramatta.
