I certainly do recommend renting for a while, it's a great way to get a feel for a place.

Nice place around Port Noarlunga - I do a lot of fishing on the Jetty there.

Hi Nara
I don't particularly like to name bad suburbs in case it causes a "bun
fight" in here.
Some have been named in this thread already - but it may only be personal
opinion or what a person can afford.
Hallet Cove is nice ------ full of Poms though ;-)

Re: Going to Adelaide
Hi Nick
I don't know too much about the northern suburbs.
The ones within a few minutes of the city can be very expensive though.
Further out it does get more reasonable, it also can get a little industrial
and flat as well.
I certainly advise you to rent for six months and get the feel of the place.
Commuting here is not like the UK at all so don't worry about distance too
much.Adelaide is quite an easy city to get around.
I live 30 mins south of the CBD in the Onkaparinga Hills ( near the beach as
well).
Sorry I can't help too much on the areas you've mentioned.
Let me know how you get on, perhaps when you get here we can crack a beer
together ;-)
Cheers
Russell
Hi Russell,
thanks for the reply, maybe we should consider the south? Everyone I've spoken to on this site who is in or going to Adelaide are heading for south of the city. It's a shame we didn't get a chance to go to this area whilst we were there!
We do plan to rent for the first six/twelve months to give us time to make a better decision, but I also don't want to be moving the kids around different schools while we make up our minds!
What areas would you recommend south of the city?
Nick

If you want beachside, and don't mind a 45 minute drive to the City, then Moana is nice and still affordable. Onkaparinga Hills if you want country and acreage. If you really want to be close to your rellies, take a look at Golden Grove, a really nice area that is close to Salisbury but miles apart in terms of reputation. Golden Grove has won loads of international awards for being so well laid out and attractive. Good luck, adelaidegirl

It's not bad at Christies Beach, perhaps just a little older and tired. A
lot of Poms settled there in the 60's and 70's,same with O'Sullivans Beach
next door.
The interest in beachfront property has pushed prices up 25% in the last
year so I think it is changing.

Quite a few areas down here to chose from.......
Blackwood, Clarendon, Aberfoyle Park.
Stirling/ Aldgate/Crafers in the hills but within easy reach of the city ( a
bit of a worry with fires up that way though -- a lot of trees)
Hallet Cove .
Onkaparinga Hills(I live here)
Seaford is OK but a bit of a new development.
Woodcroft and surrounds is booming at the moment.
This is to name a few areas.
I prefer this area as it is a lot greener and more hilly.
I'll have a look and see if there are any good sites for you to look at.
Cheers

Yes, you have to tread carefully :-)
To be constructive I'll recommend some handy sites for future Adelaideans to look for 'real estate'...
