Firstly you need to find out if they will be eligible.

They will need to pass the balance of family test in order to qualify for a parent contributory visa. If they do not pass this it will be extremely difficult for them to get a PR visa as over the age of 45 there are very few options.

If they are well off those aged 45-55 may be able to get a business skill/investor visa. Those with top-class skills might still be able to get an employer nomination visa.

Over 55, the Retirement visa is a temporary visa that may suit those who are well off. Note that this closes to new applicants on 30 June 2005.

We have not really looked in to this yet as my brother has been asked for the bond so he is as good as there and we are just at the TRA stage so it may never happen.

Our mother is 68 this year and we are her only relatives along with our partners and her grandchildren. Does this mean that any chance of her getting to Oz permanently is out of the question?

TIA,

R.

.
Look at the Contributory Parent visa as a first option.

I was only discussing options for those who do *not* qualify for parent visas (aged dependent relative or carer are further options that occasionally can suit a parent with specific circumstances).

Booklet 3 on the DIMIA website www.dimia.gov.au gives all the info on the Contributory Parent Visa.
