My fiancé has been asked to supply an assurance that she will contact health
authorities once in Australia (form 815?). Does anyone out there know how long after
this she may be granted her prospective spouse visa. This would seem to be among the
last steps - has anyone in this NG had to lodge such an undertaking? Did it cause any
problems? As far as we know my fiancé is in good health so I guess this is just a
precaution against TB owing to her country of origin (China)?

Hi Steve,

That's a health undertaking, you should be checking flight availability :)

Cheers

Had the same experience from Russia Steve, though the Form was presented at the time
the Visa was put into my Wife's Passport. Soon after she arrived here in Melbourne we
telephoned the Medical Authority nominated to be told 'because the X-Ray prints were
sub-standard they wanted to do them again'. Ironic - because by a quirk of fate the
X-Rays were done by the nominated people who were related to us - and we knew the
plates were clear and good quality.

The Authority in Melbourne was located far from us - but kindly they arranged for the
"new" X-Rays to be done in our city - for only the Medicare covered fee- by a private
practitioner. They also specified that a Mantoux test be done for Tubercolosis -
though the value of the Test is of course dubious, my wife already having been
inoculated for TB in childhood. The practitioner doing the test was rather amused by
this request.

Seems the additional Health checks are further precautions - particularly against TB.
The additional costs don't seem to concern them!

But it would seem that at this point the Visa issue is imminent - providing you sign
the undertaking..

Politely - the Authority subsequently contacted us to notify that the additional
tests were clear!
