Hi,

Can anyone advise what and what a new migrant to Oz should do as soon as she / he lands apart for looking for a job and house.

Hiya princef

just a few things you need to get sorted asap upon arrival are you need to register for your TFN (Tax File Number) so you can work without paying huge amounts of tax. You also need to register with Medicare and take out private health insurance. Finally, if you have any children you need to register with the family assistance people to get any family allowance type benefit you may be entitled to.

also do a search on this forum for Tim Sorrell, he's got a website full of useful information but I haven't got his details to hand.

find somwhere to sit, buy a slab, buy some snags, and relax for a little while. then reply to this forum telling all us hopefulls what a wonderfull time your having, and how you really dont want to rub it in but your going to anyway.
not what you had in mind i assume ahhh

oh well i can dream as if lors gonna let that happen before all the other bits are sorted.

Plus get a driving licence. You need to do this within 3 months of taking up
residence.
