From the Department just now:

10 Aug 2012
eLodgement Release
Electronic lodgement for points tested Skilled Migration and Business Innovation and Investment visa applications will be
released on or around 11am on August 11 (AEST).
During this launch, we expect significant demand for use of these new products. This demand may result in temporary
performance issues such as delays in page loading times and/or document attachment. Your patience during this period is
appreciated.
If you have received an invitation to apply for a visa, you will be able to begin lodging your visa application from this time
using the Apply button on your SkillSelect account homepage.

Intermittent Visa Lodgement Issues
Some clients with current invitations have been experiencing intermittent problems while lodging visa applications. This
issue is preventing some people from completing their visa application. This is currently being investigated and we expect
a solution by Monday 13 August. A further update will be provided to you by this time.
Thank you for your patience.

It is quite astonishing how flaky the DIAC servers appear to be.

Clearly the Department doesn't carry out suitable testing before they put them into live mode.

A business run in the same way would have no long term future - unless it had a monopoly over its product ...

Best regards.

once they (the business) know that, they have monopoly for their products, they usually becomes careless about their service and/or sales. because they know very well that, whether they will provide a good service or not their business will not affected and the sales will go on as normal.

the above is my personal opinion and it is not my complaint or problem with DIAC.

Only being posted as a message to people who have lodged EOIs.

Alan's correct btw that having had at least 12 months to get the release right this is a very disappointing performance. I'm sure there were externalities - DIAC is providing this service through another Department's systems - but still unsatisfactory.

Cheers,

George Lombard

Post Re: First Round of 189, 489 Invitations for 1 August

Hi all,

I am not sure if I should ask this question in this thread. Anyways..

I submitted an EOI recently as I have 65 points, even though I haven't finished my 2 years study in Australia. My interests were for skilled independent (189), skilled nominated (190) and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (187).

I don't know much about the 187 visa. Is it when an employer or a state wants to sponsor you?

I did not receive any invitation in the first round (expected) but next to 187 visa type, there is an 'Apply Visa' button, which appeared a few days ago. I assume this button comes up next to the visa for which a person is invited. There is no correspondence for this though. Anyone else got this?

Does that mean I am invited to apply for 187?
Do I go straight on to a bridging visa if I choose to apply?

I would appreciate if someone could shed some light on this.

Thanks

Hi everyone,

first of all thanks a lot, George Lombard, for the useful information. You answered questions I couldn't find answers for at http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/

I've submitted my EOI with 60 points at 13th August (261312 Developer Programmer). From what I read here, I get the feeling it won't be enough.

I could get more points through the community language option (I'm German and have lived in Germany for 27 years) and possibly by improving my IELTS score (its been 2 years and 11 month since I last did it, scoring 7, i.e. 10 points).

So for me the questions are obviously: should I bother spending the money for the above steps (500 AUD (?) for someone approving I can speak German and 330 AUD for IELTS), or should I wait until the next round? And, more importantly, when is the next round and what was is the target score for my occupation?

I think its quite frustrating that http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/ doesn't answer those questions, event though they stated they will post reports on the scores needed.

Cheers,

Urs

ps: also, if its so complicated to get 189, I'm wondering if I should focus on finding a job and getting 186, but I guess that's not a topic for this thread.

Hi Urs,

Thanks for the endorsement. I think for people in the 189 stream, in that the opposition is largely invisible to you, there is no alternative to scoring as many points as you can, ie claiming language points is a very good idea and if you can score 8.0 on each part of the IELTS then go for it. IELTS tests are only valid for three years so you need to think about doing it again anyway.

Cheers,

George Lombard

Probably discovering that the 100 places offered were all to EOIs where people have wildly overstated their English and skills - or, less pessimistically, it was too small a sample to create a meaningful report.

Cheers,
