Default A few questions please

Just reposting here as i posted in the wrong forum

My girlfriend and myself have just had a little baby (3months ago)
we would both like to move to australia as we are living with my parents. Not straight away but maybe in 1 or 2 years time. as bringing up out baby would benifit him much more than england.

Im 26 and my g/f is 20. we have no family outside of the uk, neither of us have a trade listed on that needed list (telesales / shop retail)

i understand that a certain ammount of points are required to be allowed to move there.

my current situation is i work full time in a Telesales office selling food that is then distributed around the country. (im first point of call take the order process it etc)

my G/f does not work right now as she is looking after the baby, but her previous job was selling bed linen in a retail shop.

i do not have any family in oz or any work place that i know about to goto.

so other than knowing a fair bit about computers (self taught knoledge) and being confident / good dealing with customers and sales i do not have any trades or qualifications to name.

would we still qualify or be even able to apply?
i would plan on saving up about £5 > 10,000 before moving if we could

and if possible i did manage to move over there and get myself a job. would a mortgage be viable for someone coming from the UK?

long post i know sorry about all this, but this seem the only place i can get my questions answered.

many thanks in advance to any replys

Have you tried seeing how many points you get on the DIMA website?

Cool Re: A few questions please

I was a bus driver with only 3 CSE's up to 6 years ago. i was also into computers like you self taught. So i started a part time degree at university and one year in on the strength of the first year got a IT job with my current employer they even paid towards some on the units where it was relevant.
It takes a little longer than 2 years but hopefully it will be worth it

If I were in your shoes, I would be looking at the In demand skills and looking to train in one of them before saving the money to get to Oz. You are young enough and if you do something like Electrician or Plumber that would open out your options whather you still went ahead with a move down under, elsewhere or remained in the UK. It might even be worthwhile for your girlfriend to train as a hairdresser. That would leave you in a much better position before you go down the stressful and possibly expensive road of applying. Having a bit of money will help, but I think you should look at your skills and qualifications first, IMHO.

Hi

Start by studying http://www.immi.gov.au. Everything you need to know
is there. I'm not an agent or anything but I think you should try and
get a job there and have your employer sponsor you. While you are there
you can get some qualifications and then apply for a PR visa.
Sorry for not being more help

Ransom - u are making the right first steps for your future now. It has taken us 8yrs to get to the stage we are at. Getting quals and work experience.

Kilted makes a good point as does SA... I contacted an agent a few years ago who put me on the path to where we are. We took it step by step and prayed the visa didnt change. If you contact a reputable agent they will help you, some without charge. Good luck iwth finding your path and keep the focus.

Hi there

By the sounds of things you don’t qualify for a skilled visa to
Australia. To be sure though, you may wish to complete an online
assessment to determine your eligibility for any type of skilled visa.

I wouldn’t necessarily go out and learn a trade just to migrate
either, not unless this is what you want to do with your life. You
would need a 4-5 year fully indentured apprenticeship to get through
the skills assessment & DIMIA application, with that process alone
taking about 12-18 months.

I would go with sa-redback’s advice on getting into something you
have an interest in, like computers, and from there looking into
employer sponsorship or delaying your plans until you qualify for a
skilled visa.

You could also try for employer sponsorship now but I’m not sure if
you would have any success. You never know unless you have a go though!

To view a list of Australia’s Skilled Occupation List, visit:
http://www.visabureau.com/australia/...tion-list.aspx

Good luck!

I would suggest a MODL Migration in Occupation in Demand list course of
study of two years (during which the student and partner can work) e.g.
cookery, hairdressing, accounting, etc. etc. ciao Andrew www.aiec.biz

spoke to some agent last night very breifly.

as soon as i said i do telesales they said sorry no chance of a visa

i asked about the 134 visa and the woman said she had never heard of it.
She said the only option for me is the 1year Working holiday visa.
to this i asked if a PR was possible from this and she said no.

Bugger looks like were not going to Oz then.
I would like to thank every one on here for all the replys though. i will still view the posts an look for hope.

If anyone in Oz knows of any distribution / food companys in OZ that might be in a position to sponsor someone please let me know. im very good at my job but my job is not on the modl list.

cheers all

Hang in there though Bud, I've been working at this for over 6 years and am only now at the stage of going for my first skills assesment, there's always more than a small chance that im going to fail and am going to have to keep working at it, even if it takes another six years, or sixteen years it's what I wont from life...........remember anything worth having, is worth working for!

Do what many have recommended here, pick an occupation that interests you, beg and plead to be given a go, work hard, study hard and keep your eye on the goal.

It's a shame though, I was over there on a working holiday visa 7 yrs ago and there were so many telesales jobs available, i took a few myself but didnt have the charm to pull it off.

All the best with what ever you decide to do fella, I think we must be pretty close to each other....you said peak district/uni town and expensive housing hmmmmmmm im in Lancaster? probs a bit further North than you ehh.

Gd luck m8, and hang in there.
