You can check your status and whether you have a case officer online. Sending a PLE to check if you have a case officer is a waste of their time that could be better spent processing my application

Re: Feb 2009 Applications
how do you know when you have a case officer i thought it was only when they contacted you for more info reqiured or to have meds done, so in theory you could have a case officer and you dont no cause they dont need to contact you.

Dear Mr Chen,
Thank you for your e-mail about your visa application under Australia’s
General Skilled Migration program.
1.) While the ASPC endeavours to ensure that all applications are
processed in date order of receipt, there are 9 different processing areas
and from time to time allocation of application timeframes are not aligned.
Although I am unable to specifically comment on your application in
comparison to other applications, I can advise that generally, all
applications are processed in order of receipt. However, this practice is
influenced by a number of factors including legislative requirements and
Ministerial Directions. This results in some applications being given
priority irrespective of lodgement dates, having regard to the particular
circumstances of the case.
Your enquiry has been referred to the area processing your visa
application. They will follow up and have a case officer allocated to
assess your application.
Once a case officer has been allocated they will conduct a preliminary
assessment on your visa application to determine if they require any
further documentation to process your application. Once this assessment
has been completed your case officer may contact you if they require any
additional documents.
We appreciate your patience in this matter.

Re: Feb 2009 Applications
I sent a PLE last week (I'm a March 09 applicant) and my CO replied asking for our PCCs and I got my visa the very next day. So, in my opinion, it was most definitely worth sending a PLE!
