Hello,

The fast-track program for skilled IT seems to be limited until the 30th of
June 2002.

Do anyone know if its going to be extended or not? Othervice the processing time is
going to be.......

Thank you,

Just out of curiosity, where did you get this information? To the best of my knowledge, fast-tracking for IT seems unaffected by the recent rule changes.

Where did you hear about the alleged expiry date? I'm not aware of
it.

Does 30th June mean that applications that get there before that date are still fast
tracked? Cause ours is getting there mid-June (we don't wanna pay the higher fee). Or
will only applications that are finished until June 30th be fast-tracked?

Ah it sucks. First the MODL thing, now this.

Hello everyone,

I read it from a web page 2 months ago, then i decided that i was going to get my
application in with 5 days marginal if i calculated the 10 weeks that ACS need to
make skills assesment and mail delivert time from SWE>AUS>SWE. So i decided to
confirm this imfo with adelie immigration office, a womman named natalie responded
that (im april) they didn't know if the program fast-tracked would be extended, if
the application was logged (stamped) before june 30th it would be fast tracked eg,
3months for skilled IT otherwise = >12 months. So i decided to wait and see, 12
months is way to long to wait for me. I have contacted Addelie again yesterday to see
if they have some new info.

Well, since i asked the addelie office it they woul extend the fast track for it
after the 30 june, they responded that they did not have any info (in april) if it
would be extended or not. = logde at adelie after june 30, 12months processing
instead of 3-4 months.

I have e-mailed them again to check if there have been some changes, but they haven't
replied yet.

So it is not a rumor from a web page, since they confirmed.

hopefully not 12 months.

Hi,

Is IT fast-track relevant only for MODL applications or any IT application? I got
qualified as ASCO 2231-17.

I didn't get the extra magic sentence in my ACS assessment which apparently should be
there to get me MODL status (though I should have got it, still got enough points so
wasn't too worried about it).

Thanks.

considering the IT market is very bad and there is Global recession,I wont be surprised if Australian IT fast track comes to a halt.Anyway there are no jobs in IT for immigrants in Australia.
So does it matter?

As I understand it, all IT occupations are fast-tracked, not just MODL ones.

A friend of mine in Australia called up the dima "info-line" to ask about IT fast
tracking and if they are going to continue doing this after the 30th of June. After
being given a number to Adelaide she got to talk to a very helpful person.

This person verified, in a way, that there is such a set date, 30th of June, as my
friend was informed that a decision as to whether or not IT fast tracking will
continue after this date or not hasn't been made yet but that a decision will be made
shortly. Of course, don't know if this is true or not but if you cannot trust someone
working for dima, then whom can you trust!!

Of course it matters. Most IT people are prepared to take any job in Australia. The
number of jobs there is completely unrelated to the faster visa.

That's the twist .

I have a great job in a startup right now outside Australia. If I get fast-tracked
then I might have to leave this job earlier just to get a worse job in Oz. I'm pretty
sure that with my experience I will get a job in IT, just the compensation would be
far lesser than what I have now. (On the other hand, it's a software startup and who
knows where would we be a year from now).

I know the visa is valid for 5 years, and by then I would expect the industry to pick
up a bit, but it can't hurt to get counting a few months or maybe even a year later
due to slower application processing, would it?

Thanks for everyone for answering my question.

Cheers,

Amos,

If you wanna slow things down a bit, you can just lodge your application later. Sure,
the fee will be higher next month, but the points can't get any worse than they are
now. Unless you are in the MODL and need those points, there's really no hurry. Send
them 3 months before you wanna move.

After leaving an 11 year career in IT as a team leader in the UK, we migrated last September. My wife was the main visa applicant in the Skilled migratory class as a nurse. Nearly 9 months later I'm still not working in IT and don't forsee any immediate change in that. It's not due to my lack of ability at interviews or a bad resume, IT is flat in Australia and there are very few jobs. All the IT recruitment companies keep telling people it's a very bad time to be unemployed in IT in Australia. Look before you leap people.
