Default Fast Track Processing

Have just heard that nurses are to be given a degree of priority - great, wife's a
nurse and is primary applicant. If the "normal" process is taking 18 months to 2
years, how fast can we expect fast track to be? Anyone any ideas about this?

Also, we intend to go on l;ong stay business (457) initially, sponsored by the
hospital. If all goes well, they will offer sponsorship for PR after 10 -12 months.
Is this a good sign and would such sponsorship also afford us priority
processing/grteater chance of success?

Keep the Q&as coming, we've learned so much from you all. Collective chins up and
good luck!!

Have you applied to London or Adelaide? The figures you mention are more
applicable to London at the moment, although there are not that many nurses left
in the system there.

Adelaide's target for ICT applicants is currently about 3-4 months, so use this as a
guide. As far as I know there are fewer nurse applicants than ICT.

That would be Employer Nomination rather than skilled independent, and that does have
a higher processing priority anyway.

By the way, assuming you have the pass mark you will be a lot quicker getting PR by
applying for skilled independent now rather than waiting a year for your new employer
to sponsor you for ENS PR.

There's probably nothing to stop you going to Australia on a 457 visa in the
meantime, and a job offer from an Australian employer means that if you have an MODL
occupation you get 10 points instead of 5.

If you need an additional 5 points, another way is to wait until you have worked 6
months in Australia on your 457, and then apply for PR (there are 5 points for
Australian skilled work experience).

Either way, if you're in your 40s you should bear in mind the upper age limit of 44
for both ENS and skilled independent.

dpr is an unknown quantity at this point

If you have sufficient points why not apply directly to Adelaide? Our PR (skilled independent) visas took approximately 3.5 months (applied mid Dec 2001 received late March 2002).

The application was lodged in my wife's name. She is an accountant and was not designated for fast track processing (possibly because both of us had >115 points we got in quickly alternatively perhaps we were extremely lucky??).

From following this forum for a few months my perception is that people applying directly to Adelaide with 'uncomplicated' circumstances are being granted skilled independent visas in a short period of time (and without the need to use an agent). Conversely if your circumstances are such that you suspect you may have problems e.g. insufficient points, lack of work experience, which visa to apply for etc etc - you would probably be well advised to consult one of the reputable migration agents

Good luck with your application

cheers
