Expos

Anyone able to give me a detailed list of companies that have attended these in the past? Trying to work out whether it is a worthwhile route for me. I am IT, but very specialist IT, and have avoided them previously as I have felt that my skills would be too specific...

Thanks!

Re: Expos

I think from what I have read on the forum, many people thought that the Expos really weren't worth attending. I know that doesn't answer your question directly but that's all I know. Some people said that the expos are worth going to (just) if you don't have to travel far and it won't cost you a bomb.

But I have been wrong before :) ; we'll see what other posters come up with.

I didn't notice any companies recruiting there when I went. The stands included things like shipping companies, pet tranporters, real estate companies, finance companies, each state had a stand there and there we're some medical authority type of stands (which could have been recruiting). I believe Hays were there but you don't need to go to an expo to contact them.

Hi. We went to the expo in Manchester and there was not one recruiter or stand for any IT specialism, plenty of health and engineering in mining sort of stuff, and as already mentioned removal companies, banks, immigration agents. Not really worth it for us as we went we already had our visa, we just went to seek any IT recruiters. Its more for those just in the early planning stages in my opinion.

agreed. went Down UnderLive today and it's mostly migration agents and finance/movers etc. Only people actively recruiting were healthcare.

Hi There
I have to say we attended an Expo and found it really helpful. Gave us an indication of what was needed and timescales , cost etc of removals. Mind you I am in healthcare so we always seem to have specific stands there which is a bonus. They are not that expensive and we met loads of friendly Australians happy to give us advice or point us in the direction of someone who could. We made a few contacts who we are in touch with via email too.
Saying that it was at the outset of our decision and since then find this site invaluable as most people have been through it first hand and you can generally find an answer to any old question even the strangest questions have generally come up before ;-)
For what its worth I'd say go along you have nothing to lose and may gain something.
Good luck with your move.
Jo x
