Expired Visa AND passport!!

Well I am an idiot! It is confirmed!

My son is due to do his annual trip back to the UK to visit his dad and i have just dug out his passport only to find it has expired! I know I can get an emergency one but not sure exactly how i go about it as the qov. website says go to nearest British Embassy (Brisbane) but i just called a government number and a recorded message said all passports are dealt with in Wellington, NZ!!!

Also, he is named on my PR Visa and I recently had to get a RRV when I went to NZ a few months ago. Do I need another for him even though he is just named on mine. He is 13.

Hope someone can shed some light as it's Sunday evening and all passport offices are shut!! I'm sure i'll get some answers when i can get through in the morning but i'm having a mini panic :sneaky:! I'm so angry with myself!!

Thanks in anticipation,

Bobbie

He will need a valid passport and an RRV to travel outside of Australia. He isn't just named on your visa he will have his own PR visa granted as a result of yours.
It is generally cheaper in the long run to gain citizenship if you qualify as RRVs only last 5 years.

You won't be the first or last.

My sister- normally a very organised and sorted individual turned up at the airport in the UK to fly on hols only to realise her son's passport had expired!! What a hassle that was!!

Not an idiot ..just human. Hope you can get it all sorted in time.

Well thanks again for the replies.

I didn't want to risk sending off for his passport with less than two weeks to go just in case!!! So I went to the British High Commission last week and was able to get an emergency travel document to cover this trip, then his dad can organise his passport whilst he is there.

We also made the most of being in Brissie and went to Department of Immigration to get his RRV. All in all an expensive trip! Definitely regret not getting citizenship sooner!

Anyway, all done now...just have to try not to cry too much when I wave him off for 6 weeks
