The applicant should have worked atleast twelve months out of last 18 months in his field at the time of application submission.
What if after submitting an application, applicant goes for further studyand stops working in the field for which he has applied for immigration. Is it acceptable ?

Work experience is counted till the day your application is lodged and received by DIMIA/ASPC. Whatever happens to your employment situation after your application is lodged and received by DIMIA is of no interest to DIMIA.
So, you can take a break, go study your PhD or whatever, or go into semi-retirement, right after your application is lodged, and it will have no effect on your work experience points.
