You may not have noticed, but the latest info from DIMA London is that Independent skilled
have to wait on average 12 months for processing. This is their 'new' website.

www.australia.org.uk/vti/html/processingtimes.html

I can't believe they're that busy.

Typical, just typical.

If you've ever lived in the UK you can probably guess why.

Nick,

I emailed them about this last week and got the reply that "skilled still takes
12 months".

Some of my other questions weren't answered at all though , so I've got a sneaking
suspicion that the reply was sent by one of the cleaners

It'd be interesting to get some feedback from other IT professionals who have recently
submitted an application to the London Office.

I've just sent off my Skills Assessment to the ACS, so I'm getting prepared for a LONG
wait before I get my PR Visa.

Cheers,

Chris

To all IT people applying anywhere:

The Australian government is in the middle of a massive IT recruitment drive, so that your
visa applications are being given priority. At present we would therefore expect the visa
grant to take no more than 6 months from any developed country, and no more than 12 months
from developing countries, although in cases where the applicant has an Australian degree
and little or no verification is necessary, it will be considerably quicker.

The details of this prioritisation are at http://www.immi.gov.au/ict/index.html

Cheers

George,

I have read recently that nurses are in as short supply as I.T Pros's, do you have any idea what sort of processing time we can expect for an independant skilled PR in the U.K. is it likely to be the full 12 months?

Thanks, Chris.

I spoke to the Australian Consulate in Auckland today, and they confirmed that
processing times were 1 mont for IT people and 7 Months for everybody else
(including people on the MODL)

Yeah, but that'll be just for Auckland, I think its different times depending on where you are in the world.

George,

I'm confused. Someone posted here a url indicating the IT shortage in Australia wasn't as bad as most people believed. This was supported to some extent by this url:

http://www.theage.com.au/news/2001/0...X2N4WLVJC.html

Is this just an isolated occurance? Is there a shortage or not?

As with any job hunting, it depends on your specific skill set, abilities,
experience, references and to a degree, being in the right place at the right time.
