Default End of Parent and Aged Parent visas?

Browsing the Federal Budget papers (as one does on a Tuesday evening) ... and noted this:

The 2014‑15 Migration Programme will have 190,000 places and maintain the composition of 128,550 Skilled Stream places, 60,885 Family Stream places and 565 Special Eligibility Stream places.

The Skilled Stream will continue to focus on Australia's longer term skills needs, including addressing skills shortages in regional Australia.

The Family Stream will refocus on meeting the increasing demand for close family reunions. The additional partner and child places will be made available as a result of the cessation of new applications from the other family and parent (non‑contributory) places. This cessation will also enable faster processing of existing applications.

(Source: http://www.budget.gov.au/2014-15/con...expense-16.htm , scroll down to Migration Programme — allocation of places for 2014‑15)

Looks like the end of subclass 103 (Parent) and 804 (Aged Parent) visa options imminently - likely to be from the end of next month.

Also the Remaining Relative visa option looks likely to go - reading between the lines.

More commentary here: http://www.gm-parent-visas.com/the-e...and-804-visas/

Best regards.

Wow. That's going to break many, many hearts. Unjustifiably cruel IMO.

Ouch - not a personal concern, but could affect a lot of our posters.

They still have the CPV option. Don't see it as unjustifiably cruel - it's not like all options for parents are cut off just that they have to pay their way in rather than rocking up on a tourist visa intending to stay.

All well and good if you come from a country where you stand a chance of saving $100k and still have enough to live on for the rest of your life. But what about parents from low income countries? There's no real option for them now.

People don't have to move to Aus if they can't get their parents there, it's a choice they make. Or the kids could save up and fund their parents if they are that concerned. It's a bureaucracy which is trying to minimise the stresses on their existing population not a family reunion brokerage and I guess they were getting a tad fed up with people who just front up on a tourist visa and expect to stay.

Their kids can always pay the visa costs,

I had to do that as Mum didn't have an odd $50k and that's coming from the UK.

Yeah, they are gone by 1st July. Given the 15 year waiting list they were never really a practical solution for anyone.

I disagree.

And the waiting time is presently closer to 8 or 9 years, not 15.

Best regards.

Depends on which visa you're talking about and when you applied but for this fiscal year Aged Dependent Relative (s/c 114) and Remaining Relative (s/c 115) applicants are looking at a 16 year wait, and for Parent (non-contributory) applicants (s/c 103) and Aged Parent applicants (s/c 804) it's 13 years.

I repeat that subclass 804 visa applications are presently taking 8 to 9 years from lodgement to a visa decision.

This thread is about the 103 and 804 visa subclasses.

Best regards.

Lol Alan, so has this change of Visa been confirmed ?

I know some of the things in the Budget 2014 still have to pass parliament but if you don't lodge your application before June 30 then you would not be assessed ?

One would assume that as long as you lodge your application before June 30 then you will still be picked up under current legislation.

What do you think ?
