Is EA experience assesment compulsory for getting additional experience points ?
 

Hello everyone!
i tried to find an answer to my question in the forum but did not find any. So, I apologize if this question has been discussed before.

A friend of mine is applying for 189 skills visa. She has 3 years of experience as a civil engineer and received her positive skills assessment a couple of months ago.
She would like to get work experience points which bring her total points to 60 but she is not sure if she has to obtain EA experience assessment as evidence of work experience prior to lodging her application with DIAC.
I've studied EA assessment handbook which says applicants who wish to get additional points MAY apply for experience assessment but it does not clarify if that is compulsory or optional.
So do you know if obtaining EA work experience assessment is compulsory for getting work experience points or the points can be achieved without that?
I appreciate if you can provide me with official link to the info as well.

The work experience assessment by EA is not necessary for obtaining points. The answer is in the word "may"

DIBP has always been the final arbiter for work experience.
