Hi,

I wish to apply under GSM independent category ( I alreday have assessment as Accountant). I have tried to see as to what occupation I fit in, but after all my research, here is what I have as ,as work experience:

working as IUC Coordinator- Revenue Assurance since February 2005 & my key role areas are as follow:-
  • Providing support to PAN-India operations for realization of Interconnection usage charges (IUC) especially from incumbent operators.
  • Coordinating and streamlining the revenue assurance operation to help realize the troubleshooting billing issued faced by various Reliance circles.
  • Helping the Company circles with necessary back end support to various regulatory problems.
  • Maintaining and analysing the circle wise realization of bills to continuously monitor and assure revenue assurance.
  • Monitoring Interconnection usage charges related issues like ADC billing, deposit bank guarantee and issuance of Tax Deducted at Source certificate to ensure there is no time lag.
  • Liasioning with India’s biggest government telephone sector company BSNL and other regulatory bodies & state ministries on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensuring smooth resolution of Policy & Regulation related firefighting issues of company.
  • Coordinating with other company subsidiaries in Mumbai & North India for regular MIS on Interconnect Usage Charges updation.
  • Providing support to technical staff for CDR analysis and dispute resolution

Do I fit in Business and Information Professionals nec, ASCO dictionary is not very clear on this and says:

Skill Level:

The entry requirement for this occupation is a bachelor degree or higher qualification or at least 5 years relevant experience. In some instances relevant experience is required in addition to the formal qualification.

Occupations in this group include:

Business Researcher

Liaison Officer

I think , I meet requirements of Liaison Officer, but not sure because ASCO does not list duties of Liaison Officer.

Please help..

Thanks
Thomas

Thomas - you maybe best giving an agent a ring. I applied under the same Business & Information Profesionals NEC 2299-79 and it looks ok to me - but a forum isnt really the place to get a definitive answer for something so important.

If you give www.ianharrop.co.uk a ring he will tell you if its the right one for you - if not he will direct you to the correct one. He did that for us - with no charge.

Hi Thomas

Sometimes it is not so important to exactly classify your recent work experience/specific work experience - Liaison Officer may well be the one that your case officer decides on. As long as you are happy that the skill level of your position is at the Degree level (or even Diploma) and there are no possible skilled classifications that you may come under that are not on SOL, then your Recent Work Experience and Specific Work experience will be acceptable.

If you require 10 points for Specific Work Experience and 05 points is not enough, then you should try and target a specific classification of your last 3/4 years work experience. For 10 points last 3/4 years work experience needs to be classified in a closely related occupation to Accountant, otherwise 5 points is scored and not 10. If this is the case then you should look at arguing that your experience classification should be maybe financial management and the accountancy related duties emphasized in your reference.

Regards

Dear Tony,

Thanks a lot for your help.

I do not need 10 Points of specific experience , here is what my points breakup is :

Skills : 60
MODL: 15
Age: 30
English: 20

Total: 125

My only worry is that ASCO dictionary does not define duties of Liaison Officer , hence I can not be sure if I am doing duties expected of Liaison officer or not.

I have seen other occupations in SOL but this appears to be the only one that matches my profile, is there anyway I can find out duties of Liaison Officer?

Getting advise from MARA agents is not an option since i do not see any MARA agent in India and the ones that have thier offices are unsure and are taking lot of time to decide on this.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards

Ok, so no big problem - you just need 12 months in the last 18 in ANY skilled occupation.

The new ANZSCO which has not yet been adapted by DIAC, gives a little bit more on the duties:

Establishes and facilitates communication between different community groups, organisations and governments.
Skill Level: 1

Specialisations:

Aboriginal Liaison Officer
Business Liaison Officer
Community Liaison Officer
Disability Liaison Officer
Police Liaison Officer

In which case I don't see Liaison as your primary duty. Like I said, as long as you are happy that your job requires you to have a degree then I think the NEC classification is likely and you could claim that without specifically claiming to match the Liaison officer.

If, for peace of mind, you want an independent opinion of youe likely classification, pm me and I will send you details on how to get this.

Regards
