I found that removing my nationality (british) from my CV resulted in more
positive results (i.e. Interviews and job offers!).

Cheers

Hmmm....

I wonder if removing US citizenship from CV will have similar effect?

If so, why?

One of the problems with putting a nationality like 'British' on your
CV is it may make the employer think you haven't got the right to work
in Australia. The thought of having to sponsor for a work permit will
put the vast majority of employers off.

Yes - all Brits I know have had trouble.

Remove your nationality, use Aussie addresses, and try looking outside the
city centre.

Of course once you take Australian citizenship you can put nationality
back on your CV saying 'Australian'

Can anyone answer this one:- All my references are from UK jobs, (only personal ones from Oz), and all my previous job are in the UK, so I think they may guess that I am British even if I do't say so!
Has anyone tried the "British, with unrestricted permisssion to work in Australia" line on their resume?

Yes - I always include a covering letter stating I have no work restrictions, I hvae purchased property at XX address (to show I'm not going back to UK in a couple of months) and that I have a clean South Australian drivers license.

Cynical as it sounds I did start to wonder about the nationality thing. Trouble is it's not so easy to get rid of your previous work history and references without making it look like you are trying to hide something shady.

I think it's just a really competitive job market here and employers are worried that new migrants aren't here to stay - or are here on a working holiday.

Cheers,

MAX

Thanks Max, I'll do a covering letter I think - that plus the fact that I'm marrying an Aussie and living in a residential address should help.
