Just to add - International in this instance means representing your country against other countries not 'playing internationally' as in playing overseas. Also, if he played for Sri Lanka A from 2000 - 2010 then I expect he's in his mid 30's and his potential 'contribution' to elite sport in Australia is limited. I work with a couple of athletes who got this visa and they were top ranked internationally (top 10 in their respective sports world wide).

Also your description allows people to work out who you're referring to - you may wish to remove some identifying info.

Thanks - I tried to edit my original post, but it seems that i cant edit that post to remove if i want to.. is this option is allowed in this forum or we cant edit our own posts after publishing them?

Cheers,
PB

You can edit your own posts, but only for two hours following the posting.

Its almost over 24 hrs now. is there a way to request permission from a super moderator to edit this post only? just to remove the sensitive details from it.

Cheers,
PB :fingerscrossed:

Why don't you either PM Pollyanna or report your own post and explain what bits you want to remove.

For future reference, you should use the 'report' button (exclamation mark to the left of each post) if you want to bring something to the mods attention. Then all of the forum mods, super mods and admin will see that report and take any action necessary - far quicker than just PM'ing one mod that might not see your message for a few days.

HTH.

I don't believe that an 'A' team is a high enough standard to qualify for this visa - maybe DIAC will think differently on appeal - but for a 35 year old that is not well known in this sport (hasn't represented his country at the highest level - World Cup, Test Matches etc.) I feel it's unlikely. That's clearly just my personal opinion but I assume that an appeal will cost money so unless you have further evidence not before sent to DIAC I would carefully consider whether it's the right option.

Hi Peaceboy,

There are precedents in the MRT and AAT databases for distinguished talent decisions being overturned at Tribunal level, see for example 1417319 [2015] MRTA 825 (1 May 2015) which was a matter involving a cricketer, but you do need to be realistic, the implied flattery in allowing yourself to be called "distinguished" does seduce a lot of people into making unjustified or in some cases delusional applications.

Does 'Joe the Cameraman' work for DIAC now? ;)

Some of us still remember Nottingham 2015 sadly TB. But I think that these days everyone agrees it was Shane Warne, not Joe the cameraman.
