Defacto visa- one year
 

Does anyone know how this would work.
Someone I work with has been going out with an American girl for a couple of years. She lived with him and his parents (they are both fairly young) for a few months (I think around 6, they extended the holiday visa), she went back to the US for 4 months and then came back on a working holiday visa.
They have both been living with his parents since. His Dad works in defence, so they had to declare the yank living with them straight off, so they have at least some proof (as well as some bills etc) of her living with them since the day of her arrival (and previously).
To then move her onto a defacto visa can they apply a couple of weeks before her WHV runs out, as it will be 11.5 months not including the time she lived with him before going home for a visit? Do they have to wait until the day it runs out to make sure it is a year?
Will she have to leave the country? They obviously would prefer not to have her leave at all, as the flights have already bashed their credit cards a fair amount.

Definitely - do NOT let the WHV run out before doing anything or life will get very complicated.
