I am currently over here on a 309. Can anyone give me any advice in which way to approach the idea if the relationship ends, and staying permantly in Australia.

Get professional advice from a registered agent, quickly, ie before the relationship ends, and before yout alk to DIAC themselves.
You might have grounds to get PR anyway, or you may be able to get a skills visa. But you need to talk to someone who can explore all your options
