Default RRV Once Current PR Expires

Hi, our family's PR (Skilled- Independent, subclass 175) will come to the end of its five year period in mid 2018.

I'm aware that once this expires, we can still remain in the country, but if we want to leave and return (holiday back to UK, etc.) then we need to apply for a RRV.

We will have lived in Australia for approximately 2 and a half years once our PR expires and will have spent all but around 3 months of that time in Australia, living and working, kids in school, etc. Can we simply apply for an RRV once the current PR expires, and are they granted for multiple entries for a certain period, e.g another five years, or until we've been in the country long enough <four years?> to apply for citizenship?

Thanks

I'm not the most knowledgeable BE member with regards to Australia's immigration policy (I was an outie, rather than an innie) But I'm pretty sure your 175 is a permanent resident visa - the PR won't expire, only the travel part of it. I think you'd be eligible for a 155 RRV, which lasts for 5 years. All info here https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/155-

If you've spent at two in the last five years in Australia as a PR then you'll automatically be granted a RRV when you apply.
