I think you will find the Aus$ fee is converted to FF (by the Embassy) at the current
rate. You will need to ask the Embassy exactly how many FF they require at present.

Bruno, I would check with the Embassy first - For instance, the Australian
Embassy in Moscow simply 'Will Not" accept Australian Dollars, Credit Cards or
Russian Currency. Only American Dollars in Currency. If you expect to be able
to pay in Au$'s and have to exchange you could get murdered with exchange rate
uncertainty just now. And until the next Australian election it may get
worse.! Bob.

G'day Raymond,

According to general policy, DIMA posts will only accept international money
orders or bank cheques or cash in AUD.

However, I find it impractical to exchange currency in certain areas simply for
the purpose of paying a fee at the DIMA post in your own country. In any event,
most currencies require 2 exchange rate considerations, US and AUD. So
eventually, you lose a lot more in foreign exchange fluctuations than
anticipated. I think the best thing for you to do is ask your bank to issue a
cheque in AUD. They CAN DO THIS! You need to ask the right person. Try a major
bank in the cirrus or citigroup network.

Best of luck!

That's strange because the Australian embassy in Germany tells you to transfer
the money in local currency to their account (see
http://www.australian-embassy.de/visa/visa.htm). I guess it depends on the
embassy you apply to. I would check with them.

Cheers, Stefan

Exactly. I had to transfer the fee to the bank account of the Australian Embassy in
Vienna - in Austrian Schillings (well, that's normal for bank transactions....) Susi

I am currently in Australia, and I was advised that I could get a 'special' receipt
for a permanent visa at the DIMA office, and then send it to the overseas post for
processing. (I imagine thats why you want to pay in AUD)
