CSOL - job seeking possible?
I've noticed that the following are on the CSOL (consolidated skilled occupations list):
'Production Manager
(Manufacturing) 133512 VETASSESS
Supply and Distribution Manager 133611 AIM'
(The CSOL list is the list of occupations where they will give you a Visa once you've been offered a job by an Australian employer and assessed by an assessing authority)
My husband is qualified and experienced as both of the occupations. I have a question though:
i) if my husband were to travel to Australia to seek work would the local companies be aware of the issue of sponsoring a Visa application or would they be likely to totally dismiss the application of someone who does not yet have a work permit.
I know in Singapore they are totally understanding of it and will be just as likely to interview you without a work permit so long as you are in the country - knowing that you'll easily get a Visa if they choose to sponsor you for the position, whereas in South Africa they are totally unaware of the whole sponsorship thing and won't consider you for a job at all without a work permit.
How is it in Australia? Is there chance of finding work prior to a Visa?
Thanks Xx

Have you checked the state lists to see if any of the states are sponsoring those positions. If it is, you could try and obtain state sponsorship for a 190PR visa. Your husband would need to do the skills assessment before applying though.

Re: CSOL - job seeking possible?
Thanks old.sparkles, I'm trying to look into that now but am having trouble finding the information. Can any one tell me - how do you go about getting State Sponsorship and how can I find out if any of the states are sponsoring the position? By the way both the positions my husband is qualified for and experienced in are listed on the CSOL schedule 2 - what does this mean? Also, what is involved in the skills assessment? and is it done in Australia itself?
Thanks Xx

I don't know much about your husbands occupations in terms of skills assessments, but no you wouldn't have to be in Australia for them to be done. You've listed AIM as the assessor for Supply and Distribution Manager, and Vetassess would be the assessing body for Production Manager. Your husband should have a look at both and decide which is the most relevant, and check what is needed for the assessment (qualifications, references, etc).
Also, at the top of the immi forum is a rough guide to migration wiki - that has links to all state migration plans - you'll have to check which states have those occupations on the list. Schedule 2 occupations are not open to independant migrations - you need either state or employer sponsorship.
Hope that helps

Re: CSOL - job seeking possible?
Apparently his professions is in urgent demand in south and northern Australia and those states are sponsoring it, though we would have preferred eastern Australia for the climate being cooler and less dry. How should we go about approaching these states about state sponsorship?
