Default Costs are never ending!!!

Everyone who wants to head off into the sunset that is Australia, will have to bare the cost of shipping their gear over. This is the stage that we are at (nightmare). We have been living in a rented, furnished flat so haven't accumulated much in the way of furniture etc. We are touring around Oz till we find a place we like, and then will ship the stuff out there from Scotland (around 6 months storage). Can anyone recommend a company that would store our stuff and then ship it out at a reasonable price?

How much should I be paying for this?

Thanks in advance, I'm sure this info will be useful to others too...

We are currently using Allied Pickfords - by currently I mean that they have packed our belongings and put them into storage waiting for us to give the go-ahead when we receive our visa's.
Definatly worth getting a few quotes, we ended up paying just under £3k for a 20ft container, this was more than £500 cheaper than the other two quotes we had (and they gave us 6 weeks free storage in the UK and knocked 5% off the price for having them pack mid-month).
Hope this helps

Hi

We used Crown Relocations as they have a registered office here in WA and they have an online tracking system. We found them helpful and professional (at both end of the world!).

Our stuff even arrived when they said it would!!!

love sophia xx

Shamer, I used Harrow Green to go from the UK to the US. I had storage with
them for nearly 6 years and their rates seemed pretty reasonable. The
delivery to the US cost around $1500 excluding insurance for 44 boxes.
Maybe a little pricey but they did an excellent job and were early. I guess
it depends on how much you value your stuff and whether you can chance it
with a cheaper removals company ?

The company I used in the uk where terrible, 6 months after the stuff leaving my mums (where i stored it) and it still isnt here, ive been told today that due to staff problems at customs, they have no idea when it will be here, tip, dont pack anything you may need within 6 months :-) and if you have kids, remember they grow out of clothes fast, dont store them!

Jeez, I thought you were going to say your tip was, don't pack your kids for six months (only kidding) I think I probably would, hee-hee

That sounds hellish, I hope you get it sorted soon, this is why I need all the feedback I can get.

Thanks,

Shamer

Hunts removals in Crewe, Cheshire, they charged me for repacking as well and then when i asked them why some of my stuff wasnt on the shipping list they admited they didnt repack all of it and so they didnt know what was axtually in the boxes; and they informed me that there would be no additional costs...... then i get landed with a customs charge this end that i didnt know abovt, ..... all in all im not very happy with them. Once our stuff arrives i will be checking it very carefully!!
