Has anybody shipped an entire 20 ft container to NZ? if so could you let me know the
cost Has anybody had any experience in selling any spare space in a container. I'm thinking there has to be a more economical way than using a "specialist" -- Euan |

Two years ago I contacted a shipping company in the Netherlands, van Heezik
www.heezik.nl . They quoted 6500 dutch guilders for a 22ft container from Rotterdam (container to be picked up from your house) to Sydney. This price was based on last years US dollar rate. Niels > > > > > |
Normally if you haven't got enough to fill 80% of a container, shipping on a shared
container basis is cheaper than using a full container, if a little slower. Jeremy > > > > > |

Then phone around the various shipping lines and ask for a quote for hiring and shipping your own container. Don't have quite a full load? A bulkhead can be installed - I had not quite a 40 ft container load and a bulkhead was installed. Not much help to you but when I returned to the US, I hired a container from COSCO. The price was just under NZ$6,000 for a 20fter to go from my residence in Christchurch to Texas. The cheapest quote I received from a moving company for the same was just over NZ$13,000. I contracted a moving company to wrap furniture and pack very fragile items, inventory and load the container; the rest I packed myself but bear in mind PBO is not covered for breakages. The cost was NZ$750. I called around insurance brokers for a comprehensive marine coverage policy - NZ$370. This is just an example of what you can do. > > I tried this when moving to NZ from the US. From my experience, it was a nightmare! There is on COSCO's NZ site, the port charges you will be required to pay; also if you go the DIY route, you can do your own Customs clearance - there will be Customs and MAF inspection fees. I have the url's which I will dig up and post later. Cath |
