Hi

I am still in the dreaming stage at the moment... but i would like to maybe come and live
in sydney ...

I am a computer programer by trade and i am sure i can get work... i have a girlfriend and
two kids. Is there any good sites out there give you a step by step guide to what to do ?

Is this dream ever going to come true ?

thanks

Matt

Matthew,

The dream can become real, there are lots of forms to fill and lots of waiting. I'm at the
skills assessment stage myself.

There are many ways to go about it, you can do it yourself, if you have the time.

There are some really good sites and are some really good agents out there to help you.

Take it or leave it but here are my favourites: -

the official government sites I've found useful are www.immi.gov.au and www.detya.gov.au

Aussie agents wise there are loads and they seem to be a lot cheaper than over here in the
UK, try George and the team at www.austimmigration.com.au

Hope it all goes well

Heidi

If you are in IT, have a look at the assessment for skilled migration page of the
Australian Computer Society

Hi Matt,

you should have a look at the FAQs assembled here:

http://www.fortunecity.com/oasis/paris/601/

or

http://freespace.virgin.net/jeremy.j...oaustralia.htm

Hope this helps. Stefan

What kind of money are you earning in the UK and what do you expect in Australia?

I'm IT too. I'm just curious.

If you've got a family, aim for Melbourne.

Sydney has more work, but is very expensive. Housing is much cheaper in Melbourne.

You can get vaguely affordable housing in Sydney, but the commute is a killer if you end
up in the IT hotbeds of North Sydney or Ryde.

For an idea of salaries, try www.it.hays.com.au

actually in Sydney myself, been here since Nov 98 and starting the process if I have
learnt anything so far its that immigration do not ever offer information, if you don't
ask about something you can be sure they wont suggest it, the moral is be very persistent
and just because you cant see a method it does not mean it ain't there.

I agree, Welington is booming in IT if you have reasonable experience and are more
willing to consider overseas applicants. Icon in Wellington are a thousand times more
helpful and friendly than their Australian counterparts. I also start there on March
26th - where will you be?
