Default Citizenship Timescales - general question

If I was to submit my citizenship application tomorrow (New Years Day) online, how soon might I hear anything? If this is a crystal ball type question then I'm sorry, OOPS!

Hi, quick question, it says that someone has to sign my photograph at the back, they must've known me for a year and be an Aussie Citizen, but then amongst the list of professions are JP's, so does that JP have to have known me for over a year then?

If this is any help we put our application in for citizenship in Oct 2012,took the exam in Nov 2012 and our ceremony is to be on Australia Day 2013. This was a paper application which I believe are slightly slower than online. We were very happy with the timescale.

But do you qualify for citizenship yet? According to your signature you only arrived in Australia in 2010.

Yes I do, a bill was passed in parliament last year, that spouses of Lateral Transfers into the ADF should've received citizenship at the same time as their OH's/children and that became effective as of today...

Looking at the forum, most cases have a processing time somewhere between 3-12 months. It will take whatever time it takes.

If you are applying under new legislation then this might be a complicating factor that could increase processing time.

Don't you just love the 'shadows of doom' who rear their heads on here! Now I realise why I don't post on BE as much anymore. I know it'll take as long as it takes, but the fact that I'm now eligible, is as big a thrill as any! It's been fairly difficult having only half of our wee 'family' as a citizen, and for those with children, having the WHOLE FAMILY citizens, except for the mother/wife! Thank goodness the government has finally seen sense!

Thanks people x Oh and HAPPY NEW YEAR once again x

Jen, no-one is being a "shadow of doom". You asked a question, its been answered. Dorothy didn't know you were applying under the ADF ruling - I guessed, that's why I didn't query your timing. JAJ is quite correct to warnn you about the new legislation complicating things - if the first CO that gets your paperwork is up to speed that could slow it down while they check your eligibility in more detail.
If we all turned round and said "ÿes you'll have it in a week" we'd be raising false hope. There are other places that give fluffier replies and people then end up disappointed, but the BE Immi forum is not about that, its about facts, and truth, and warning of the worst case scenario, just in case.....
