Citizenship Eligibility

Hi Guys,

Could anyone please help me with a quick question. This might help others as well who are planning on applying for their citizenship.

I got my 189 visa in mid Oct 2013. It said I need to visit before July 2014. I moved to Australia in Jan 2014. (Roughly after 80 days of visa granted date)

How does the citizenship eligibility work. I know they count the last 4 years. But does the last 4 years start from the visa grant date? or from the first arrival date?

I have only spent (first 80 plus 20 days) 100 days outside Australia in last 3 years. Can I apply for the citizenship in Oct/Nov 2017? or do i need to wait till Jan 2018?

Thanks,

Re: Citizenship Eligibility

They count from arrival date, not visa grant date.

Yes, begin counting from date of entry, not the grant. Given that you have 12 months to activate the visa, the clock will only start ticking once you touch down in Oz.

Regards,

Richard
