If I can't imagine you'll struggle too much as a Pom. No chance of these proposals becoming law any time soon anyway so I wouldn't worry too much!

Yes agreed. It was pretty depressing for us when these changes were announced 'with immediate effect' in April. We were 6 weeks from being able to apply then. Seemed so unfair in many ways and we hoped (without much hope tbh!) for them to be rescinded. I honestly don't think waiting another two years would have strengthened our commitment to become Australians. If anything, the proposed changes made people like us feel more alienated and unwanted. Good to see they've been shelved for now. Our applications will go in tomorrow and we're more than happy to wait however long it takes. Good luck to others in the same boat
