Child Visa Procedure for PR Parents

Hello Everybody,

We received our PR Visas in Feb '06 & Validated the same in Mar '06,
We are outside AUS now & are expecting our First baby in Aug.
So I'd like to know what is the procedure for applying a PR Visa for our baby,
Is it to be applied with the DIMA office or the AUS High Com.,
also how long does it take for the Visa grant & and also does it need to be Validated once issued.

Please reply.

A child visa can be applied for either outside Australia or inside.

Processing time depends on the post/office you applied at.

If the child visa was applied for outside Australia, then there will be an initial entry date condition.

Bad timing guys! Bit earlier or later and you wouldn't have to worry.

Seriously tho, the baby will need a visa to enter Oz so you'd better
apply at your friendly local High Commission. Child visas for babies are
usually pretty simple. The only hiccups I would worry about are medical
conditions and divorces (don't get divorced b4 U get here-it's not THAT
stressful).

Give the High commission a call or check their website.

Archie,

Are you in the UK? If so, the application should be lodged with the Australian High Commission in London. Processing time is about a week if you front end load the application with the result of baby's medical examination.

You apply using form 47CH, and apart from the full birth certificate and certified copy ID page from baby's passport there probably isn't a lot more to it.

Form 47CH is here: http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/47ch.pdf

In case of need, feel able to contact my colleague Lorraine Beaumont (who used to work in family migration at the AHC in London) on Southampton number 023 80 488777.

Best regards.

Should still be fairly quick, although not necessarily within a few weeks. Have you not even had an acknowledgement / file number? If not then follow up urgently in case the application is lost/misfiled etc.

Re: Child Visa Procedure for PR Parents

we have a file number that was issued the day that I hand delivered the application into the perth office but no contact since. The file number was given from the front desk staff but how can I be sure that a case officer has it ? how long do I give it until I contact them again?

Thanks

Chris

Hiya,
we too had our daughter after getting Visa.
Took only 1 week from the Australian High Commission in London - ACE!

Fill forms in and you don't need a statutory declaration, just both sign the forms (as per note from AHC website)
Costs @£500 though!

Bye
Mark
