Hi everyone First time on this news group. I hope someone can help answer my question
below. I have just got positive skills assessment from the TRA. and I am now
preparing documents to send to DIMA in London. I have downloaded additional local
information pack from UK website. I'm a little confused by what is required for
character check. I understand I need to request a character check from my local
police station but do I also need to send off the form attached to the info pack to
the Australian Federal Police along with a payment of $38?. Do I wait for a reply
from Oz Federal Police before submitting Visa application forms to London. Hope
someone can help. Graham

Hi Graham,
This was discussed last week. It is confusing, but the first paragraph of page 7 of
the downloaded London application form (in .pdf format) indicates that it is a
requirement to provide a 'character reference' only if you have lived in Australia
for longer than 12 months within the last 10 years. Assuming you haven't, you just
need a U.K police check.
As I advised last week, I strongly recommend you submit your application form (with
TRA) now and send the medicals and police check later. They recommend you send them
in at the same time to expedite matters, but there's such a queue presently, there
appears to be no advantage. Therefore, you'll be in the queue earlier and you can
spread the cost of the medical/s
If you're an IT specialist, ignore the last paragraph.
Hope this helps,
Wayne
