Yes, I see what you mean. That would be good to know, but for the moment, I think you are no better or worse off than you were before.

Re: Changes to General Skilled Migration 8 Februrary 2010
Guys, a lot of people are asking George for very specific help in their individual cases. Please bear in mind if you are doing this that he does have a business to run and a living to earn, and it wouldn't take a genius to work out that he is going to have a lot of paying clients looking for answers too.
If you want a reply to a very specific situation, please be patient, and don't address the question specifically to George or any other agent - other posters may be able to answer you, including other agents. And remember that it may well be in your own best interests right now to consult a registered migration agent yourselves, rather than relying on the free - and of necessity fairly general - information on here.
Thanks

"Q 4 Which GSM visa subclasses are exempt from new priority processing?
The following visa subclasses are exempt from priority processing:
• Skilled—Recognised Graduate (subclass 476)
• Skilled—Graduate (subclass 485)
• Skilled—Designated Area—Sponsored (Residence) (subclass 883)
• Skilled—Regional (subclass 887).
Applications for these visa subclasses will be processed in the order in which they are received"
Okay, I'm being a bit thick here, but does this mean they will be processed as they would have been prior to 23/9/09? Or will they have to wait in the system til all the "priority" applications are dealt with? Any advice much appreciated

Further information concerning the abolition of the MODL:
... the only applicants who will still have access to MODL occupations will be Subclass 885 Skilled – Independent, Subclass 886 Skilled – Sponsored and Subclass 487 Skilled – Regional Sponsored visas applicants, who:
(i) held a Subclass 485 Skilled – Graduate visa at the date of commencement of this instrument; or
(ii) had made an application for a Subclass 485 Skilled – Graduate visa that is not finally determined at the date of commencement of this instrument.
There will no longer be any skilled occupations on the MODL for all other GSM applications. This will mean that most GSM applicants will not be able to obtain extra points under the GSM points test because of the MODL. This change will impact all new GSM applications from the effective date of the instrument except those specified above. It will also impact on potential applicants who intended to apply for a GSM visa based on their occupation which was (before the changes) listed on MODL.
Cheers,
George Lombard

Re: Changes to General Skilled Migration 8 Februrary 2010
I applied for GSM VE 176(family sponsored) CSL+MODL on 6th January 2010
my point distribution at that time was 60(occupation)+30(age)+15(IELTS)+15(recent overseas work experience).
i was assigned a CO on 1st february 2010 and all documents status changed to MET but i didnt receive any call for PCC and meds so far
1-I think new point system puts a question mark against my eligibility based on recent overseas work exp.)
2-Family sponsored GSM with CSL and MODL is nowhere to be seen on new priority processing list???
am i screwed big time or what???
kindly help and suggest something???

I am not sure I understand. Does this mean it effects the 495 visa's that were applied for before September 1st, received and living in Aus but when we apply for the 887 there could be a problem. My heart is racing now.

d) People planning to apply for General Skilled Migration as of 8 February should consult a migration agent - those who hold positive skills assessments but have not yet applied for their visas will be able to apply however should their nominated occupation not be on the new Skilled Occupation List then their application will most likely be refused.

Thanks for joining us. Just want to ask you, do you know where did this assumption come from? Is it just copy-paste practise of newspapers?
The 08/02/2010 doesn't state anything like this.

Dear All,
I am SAP Consultant (I.T specialist , SAP ERP Consultant) and I found there is a high demand of my skills in whole Australia as of today, Currently waiting for my ACS assessment.
I hope my skills will be kept in new list.
Please suggest , when should I apply ( once received ACS letter) to DIAC.
Should I wait for new SOL .
Thanks
Ahmed.
